Outpost Packet Message Manager

BBS and PBBS Information

N0ARY BBS

General Information:

27-Mar-07: In 1990, Bob N0ARY wrote a packet radio BBS that used an innovative natural language parser for interacting with the user.  It also functioned as a gateway to the Internet.  Active development stopped on this project in 1995.  The BBS was written targeting a Sun workstation running SunOS 4.x.  Many others have been involved with it since it's creation back in 1990.

See the 2nd reference below for a good example of the natural language parser Bob talks about above.

Outpost Notes:

IMPLEMENTATION
SID = [ARY-4.1.1-H$]
Outpost looks for the "[ARY" phrase of the SID as the means for identifying this BBS.

CONFIRMATION
Outpost was previously confirmed to be operational using the N0ARY BBS in San Jose California.  However, that BBS was not available during the v2.2 test cycle.  Confirmation of Outpost's operation with an N0ARY BBS would be appreciated.

CONSIDERATIONS
Regarding BBS Prompts.  Note the changes in the BBS Prompt above.  When first logging on, the prompt is set to N0ARY [0]>.  After performing a message list, the prompt is set to reflect the MID of the last message read... N0ARY [39984]>.  For Outpost to work correctly with N0ARY, beginning with Outpost v2.2, the user should proceed as follows:

1.  Setup >> BBS, 1st tab.  Check "User defines the BBS Prompts".

2.  Setup >> BBS, 2nd tab.  Enter "]>" in the top-most field.

3.  Press OK.

While not ideal, this prompt should be sufficiently unique enough not to be encountered in normal packet traffic.
