BBS and PBBS Information

PK-88, PK-96, PK-232, DSP-232 PBBS

General Information:

27-Mar-07: PK-232 was first introduced by AEA in 1986; see the History for details.  Timewave continues to make updates to the PK-232 and it continues to be a popular TNC with PK users.

DSP-232 has a similar look and feel, with more available modes.

PK-88 is no longer in current production.

PK-96 is a plug-in and go 9600/1200 bps TNC loaded with plenty of features.

Outpost Notes:

IMPLEMENTATION
SID = [AEA PK-88]     (PK-88)
SID = [AEA-9509-H$]   (PK-232)
SID = (AEA DSP-232)   (DSP-232)
SID = (AEA PK-232M)   (PK-232, direct serial connect)
SID =  (AEA PK-96)     (PK-96, direct serial connect)

Outpost looks for the "[AEA" or "DSP" phrases of the SID as the means for identifying the PK and DSP-232 TNCs respectively.  Once identified, all BBS types are handled identically.

The PK-88, PK-232, and DSP-232 PBBS Prompt are different, and all are determined at connect time.

CONFIRMATION
Outpost has been confirmed working with all PK-88, PK-96, PK-232, and DSP-232 PBBSs.

CONSIDERATIONS
none

BBS Notes:

SPECIAL CONFIGURATIONS, SETTINGS

Accessing the DSP-232 PBBs can be done either over the radio port or when directly connected to a PC.

  • If the PBBS is connected directly to a PC, set Outpost's connect command to "mdcheck".

  • For connections by the radio port, set Outpost's connect command to the standard TNC "connect" or "c".

Listing:

The following is a typical listing of the PK-232 as could be seen by  Outpost.  This listing is essentially the same for the PK-88 and DSP-232.

cmd:connect W5WP-1 via WA5EOC
