0. WHAT'S DIFFERENT WITH OUTPOST 2.0
-------------------------------------
Version 2.0 is the first release that includes a structural change
to how Outpost is organized. Specifically, with the introduction
of AGWPE and TELNET support, the size of the main program is growing
requiring more system resources. This tends to be inefficient
especially if some components are not used all the time, if at all.

V2.0 breaks out the Interactive Packet window functionality into 3
separate programs: Ipserial.exe, Ipagwpe.exe, and Iptelnet.exe. All
three programs can be called from the main Outpost.exe, as well can
be run independently. These programs will be installed in the Outpost
program directory and will interact with Outpost as before.

Following in this approach, a future release will also break out the
TNC Session Manager into a separate program.

1. COMPATABILITY WITH PREVIOUS VERSIONS
----------------------------------------
Users who choose to install v2.0 should uninstall any previous
versions prior to installing Outpost v2.0

If you have packet messages in Outpost that you want to save, you
can export them and, after installing v2.0, import them back into
Outpost. The description of how to do this in included in the
installation information below.

Also, because of the addition of AGWPE and TELNET, BBS and TNC data
will need to be re-entered. Please note your configurations prior
to uninstalling previous versions of Outpost.

2. INSTALLATION NOTES
---------------------------------------
Outpost runs on the following Window Operating Systems: 98, NT,
2000, ME, and XP. A single Installation package supports all of
these operating systems.

2.1. If you are downloading Outpost from the Website, I recommend
creating a directory for the op200.zip file (something like c:\optemp,
or whatever). Download the zip file and open it. You will find
5 files...

Outpos1.CAB -- compressed copy of all program and document files
Outpos2.CAB -- compressed copy of all program and document files
setup.exe -- the setup program... double-click on this to start the setup.
SETUP.LST -- the setup control file... please don't change this!
README200.TXT -- this file

2.2. This installation will overwrite all configurations and messages
that you may have in any previously installed version of Outpost. If
you DO NOT WANT to preserve the messages that you currently have, skip
to step 2.4. Else, proceed as follows.
  (i)   From v1.x.x Outpost, press File->Export
(ii) Choose either All or the current folder to export.
(iii) Enter a file name, press OK

2.3. Uninstall any previous version of Outpost

2.4 From the c:\optemp directory created above, you run setup.exe.
Setup starts by copying 2 files required to support the installation
process. It is now unlikely that you will be prompted to perform a
reboot. However, if you are, approve the reboot, then run the setup
again (sorry, not one of those wizzy setup programs).

2.5 The balance of the installation process is straight forward.
Follow the prompts and on completion, Outpost is ready to run.

2.6 If you exported messages from a previous version and want them
reloaded, after running Outpost v2.0, select File->Import, then select
the file name to be imported.

3. CREATING FLOPPY INSTALL DISCS
--------------------------------
If you do not have access to the internet on the target machine and
do not have a CD-ROM drive, you can create a floppy installable version
by doing the following:

3.1. Download the installation package to a temp directory.
3.2. Unzip the download package.
3.3. Mark 2 formatted floppy discs as "Outpost Disc 1" and "Outpost Disc 2".
3.4. Copy the following files to Floppy 1...
	Outpos1.CAB
	setup.exe
	SETUP.LST
3.5. Copy the following files to Floppy 2...
	Outpos2.CAB
3.6. Insert Floppy 1 in the target system. Navigate to the floppy, and
    run setup.exe.
3.7. The installation program will prompt you to insert the 2nd floppy.

4. WHATS NEW IN OUTPOST 2.0
-----------------------------
#240 Adds support for BBS access by AGWPE.

#430 Adds support for (F6FBB) BBS access by Telnet.

v2.0 ENHANCEMENTS - MESSAGE HANDLING
-----------------
#108: Check for and removes any "/EX" entered in the message.

#399: In a new message form, on pressing the NTS button, immediately
brings up the NTS Message Maker form.

#408: Adds a delete button on the Message form to allow users to
delete a message without first closing it.

#419: Adds a function key support for moving messages Shift-Cntl-Fx
or copying messages Shift-Fx, where x = 1:In Tray, 2:Out Tray,
3:Sent Msg Folder, 4:Archive, 5:Drafts, 6:Deleted folder.

#422: On a New Message Form, allows the From: field to be changed at
message creation time.

#280: DEFECT: Corrects a problem when opening a report form the 2nd time.

#409: DEFECT: Resolves a Runtime Error 53, and program aborts with the
Import>Open a file function.

v2.0 ENHANCEMENTS - ON-LINE REPORTS
-----------------
#437: Adds a user control to remove any remaining input prompts ("=")
from On-line reports.

#441: Adds the capability to progress from input prompt to prompt by
Left-Mouse-Clicking.

v2.0 ENHANCEMENTS - SETUPS
-----------------
#383: Cleans up Send/Receive interval timer setups and resets.

#414: Logic change to allow the user to select either Retrieve All
Bulletins or Retrieve Filtered Bulletins, but not both at the same time.

#435: Adds an option to selectively show the Station Identifier form
at startup in a new Outpost General Settings menu. This change
accommodates users that are configuring Outpost to automatically run
on a re-boot or scheduled as part of an AGWPE startup sequence, and
begin send/receive sessions without any user intervention.

#443: The Retrieve Filtered Bulletins function has been expanded to
support up to 10 filter settings.

#466: Adds a text description field for configured TNCs and BBS
configurations.

v2.0 ENHANCEMENTS - SEND/RECEIVE CHANGES
-----------------
#410: On MSYS processing, cleans up the status bar messages to be
consistent with the Session Manager's action.

#418: Adds a Function Key F5 to initiate the Send/Receive Session process.

#426: Establishes an option that allows the receiver of a message
to automatically issue a Read Receipt regardless of what receipts the
sender has requested.

#429: When setting the Outpost Station ID (FCC Call Sign), disallows
setting it with an SSID.

#440: Advanced option that allows the user to optionally set the end
of message prompts to generate more "uniqueness" in send and receive
BBS prompt message detection.

v2.0 ENHANCEMENTS - TNC, BBS HANDLING
-----------------
#190: Restructures the TNC and BBS setup forms to be more intuitive;
implements an "OK" and "Apply" function on most setup forms; eliminates
the old "update" button (very confusing).

#432: For KPC-3 PBBS, detects "***<call> BUSY" messages.

v2.0 ENHANCEMENTS - INTERACTIVE PACKET WINDOW
-----------------
#411: Disables the cntl-c as a Windows clipboard copy function and
allows it to be used for getting the TNC's attention. To copy text
from the form, (i) highlight the text, then (ii) Menu Edit>Copy. The
cntl-x and cntl-v still perform a Windows clipboard Cut and Paste respectively.

v2.0 ENHANCEMENTS - OTHERS
-----------------
#417: Changes the program logic to select the text in the field when
tabbed to that field for some forms.

#425: Adjusts all text labels and fields to handle the XP display style.

#439: Fixes the Transaction File creation function to store text that
is truncated when the test space gets too large.

#478: Restructures all Log file management, partitioning them into a
Session Log, Transaction Log, and Data Trace Log.

5. SUPPORT
----------
I have a day-job, and (unfortunately) it is not Outpost. However, I do
take defect reports seriously. If you find issues or problems, you can
send me an email at kn6pe@arrl.net. I will reply with information or a
disposition of your request.

For MSYS BBS-related questions, please contact George W9GWP of the Lake
County (IL) Digital Group at: w9gwp@yahoo.com .

A full user guide can be found up on the Outpost website at...
www.CupertinoARES.org/projects/outpost . Follow the link to documentation.

Thanks for your ongoing support, and have fun with Outpost 2.0!
