BBS and PBBS Information

KAM-4 PBBS

General Information:

22-Nov-07: The Kam-4 appears to be an early version of the KAM and is described separately here because of the difference in the LM message listing.  For check out the  KAM-XL, KAM, KAM-98, and KAM+ PBBS page for other details.  Also, see the Kantronics links below for specifications, information on these TNCs.

Outpost Notes:

IMPLEMENTATION
SID = [KAM-4.00-H]
The KAM-4 PBBS behave identically to the KPC3 series PBBS.  Outpost looks for the "[KAM-4" phrase of the SID to clear differentiate this PBBS from the other KAM series PBBS.  Once identified, Outpost processes it specific to the KAM-4 rules.

The KAM-4 PBBS Prompt is derived bt Outpost and usually defaults to "Help >".   The message format is the same as the KPC3 series.

CONFIRMATION
Confirmed in v2.2c229

CONSIDERATIONS
1.  Outpost will automatically determine the BBS prompt for a KAM-4 BBS.

2.  The BBS supports both a "L" List and a "LM" List Mine command.  Unfortunately, the "L" command does produce the message listing that Outpost looks for for the other KAM PBBSs.  However, it also lists ALL messages on the PBBS, not just those intended by the connected user.  Therefore, the "LM" must be used to ensure you do not retrieve messages not addressed to you.  Note that the LM command does not include the TO: column for the destination call sign, which will always be you, the currently connected user.

BBS Notes:

SPECIAL CONFIGURATIONS, SETTINGS
The KAM-4 does not support identifiable Bulletins and NTS messages.  While you can send a bulletin (SB <subject>) or  NTS message (ST <subject>) to the PBBS, there is no complimentary "LB" or "LT" commands to List Bulletins or List Traffic respectively.  If Bulletin or NTS message handling is required, you should consider a more contemporary TNC that supports this feature, such as the KAM-XL or KPC3x family.

See the Command Prompt and associated BBS commands for details:
